Media Resource Sharing

In late 2024, BC ELN circulated a Media Resource Sharing survey with the goal of determining how BC ELN and Illume Support can continue to meet the evolving needs of partner libraries when requests for physical media are generally on the decline. In response to the Media Resource Sharing Survey Results the Media listerv (media@bceln.ca) has been retired and the current best practices updated below.

We also recommend that BC ELN libraries keep their ILL Policy pages updated with information on their local Media lending policiespreferences including any special media instructions, shipping charges, or lost/damages policies. If you have any questions/concerns, or if you would like further information about the results of the survey please contact us.

Media Resource Sharing Best Practices

BC ELN libraries clearly indicated a preference that both the borrowing and lending of physical Media (eg. DVDs or Blurays) be performed via current Interlibrary Loan software such as Illume (SHAREit) or ISO Relais.

Please contact Illume Support further for additional assistance with SHAREit or your Borrower and Lender Policy configurations to allow for physical media requesting. Or if you have any questions or would like training on requesting physical media via provincial ILL software systems.

For questions about requesting a specific item, please contact the member library directly if you are unable to request the item via your ILL software (eg. SHAREit).

The exchange of media among BC ELN partner libraries is for the benefit of the faculty, staff and students of BC Post Secondary Institutions. Requests for Media interlibrary loans to Public libraries is based on local lending policies and licensing agreements.
